Dear Family,
Wenatchee is completely opposite from Quincy. It is huge and more of a city.
It is also on the side of a mountain. So we live at the top of the hill and we
go down to work. On Sunday-Wednesday, We have the car. And on the other day's
we have our bikes. Their is 2 set's of Spanish missionaries so we share the car.
My new companion is Elder Frazier. He is from Arizona and likes sports and
the outdoors. So we have a lot of things in common. He is different from Elder
Reyna because he jokes around, is loud, and loves to teach with object lessons.
Elder Reyna was a good missionary and I'm glad he trained me.
The Mexicans love to feed us. I usually eat 5 times a day. They don't
like to be told no. This past week I had a hard time eating the food. A
couple of reasons is how they prepare and cook the food. Their house's
aren't ever clean. They don't wash their hands or plates very often. The
food is also very spicy. I usually drink 5 glasses of water to help. Also I have
eaten pig skin, cow tounge, sheep stomach, and who knows what else. But
it is a good thing we bless the food.
My bike is falling apart from underneath me. I might have to get a new
one or buy one from the mission. My companion has gone thru 3 bikes. So I
might have to get another one. The front end is loose along with the back
tire, The gears are sticky. Every day I have to fix or adjust something. I will
try and keep this one for as long as I can.
We live with members, it is an older couple, we live in one of the bedrooms. It's
really good but no room for desks. The members buy our groceries for us so we get
more free food. I have met a lot of crazy people, people cus at us, try and get
us to drink, or try and bash. We met this guy yesterday by knocking doors. He
opened the door and he looked like a skeleton. The room was full of smoke, we could see a lot of drugs. And he was so high he couldn't remember anything. His fingers were black because of his lighter. Every time he light up he burnt his fingers.
Nothing to serious but my companion said I will see more drugs, druggies, and who knows what while I'm here. But the work is still true. I will talk to you all later.
Love Elder Garrett
