September 14, 2008

Dear Family,

This past week was crazy, on Thursday we woke up at 5:00 am to go to a meeting in Spokane. Elder Frazier is a district leader so he had to go to a training. Elder Reyna is also a new district leader. So they went to Spokane to be trained. When I was transfered to Wenatchee Elder Reyna stayed in Quincy and his new companion is Elder Christenson so when Elder Frazier and Elder Reyna went to Spokane, me and Elder Christenson stayed in Quincy. It was only for one day, but it was nice to go back.

Then the next morning we woke up at 5:00 am to go to zone conference in Moses Lake. It was really good we learned how to help people pray. Also how to make our lessons powerfull. Then on saturday morning we woke up at five to bike to a meeting. Since my compainion is district leader we meet with the steak president to talk about the work. It's not too bad because he feeds us breakfast.

Then on Sunday we had a baptism planned. Andrea and her daughter were going to be baptized after church. It was funny how satan worked with her. We were in sunday school class "which is the first block" and she wasn't there. So Elder Frazier called and talked to her. She said her friend was there and that she was not going to make it. Which wasn't good because she is the one going to be baptised.

So me and Elder Frazier ran over to her house to see what was going on. We got their and she came out side to talk with us. So she said that she called her parents to get their birthdates for the record. And the parents gave her a really hard time. She is also renting out the basement to an older guy. He too was giving her a bad time. So the biggest problem was that she was scared and confused. A lot of people and satin tried to change her mind. But Elder Frazier told her a story about how his dad became a member. His dad had gone through a simular senario. We gave her some comfort and she decided to go through with it.

So we went back to church just in time for sacrement meeting. After that we had a short snack to wait for the other wards to get out. Then we started the service. It was really good. Most of the branch was their. I didn't baptize any one but it was still good to be their. Next sunday we will confirm them. It is good to see the results, it will help us to want to find more people. We are teaching this guy named Mario. He really likes the church. So he might be the next one to be baptized.

Elder Frazier is from St. Luis, Arizona. Me and him have a lot in commom. He is also really good at spainsh. He is studying slang in spanish. He says a lot of people speak slang. He has been out for 15 months and he helps me with my spanish. I can talk a little bit but not good enough yet. We live with the Warrens. They don't have any kids at home it is only a single floor with 3 bed 2 bath. We have are own bathroom but it's not connected to the room. The room is small so we study in the living room. We use their laundry room. And we also use their soap. We also use their kitchen. We are the only spanish Elders so we work with all the hispanics. The members will feed us, they will cook something or let us join in on dinner. Not only are we eating weird things but their living conditions are terrible. We don't have a set lunch and dinner because every house we go into they offer us food. Most of the time we will just take a piece of fruit.
Thank you for the box of food. It had some good stuff. I really loved the snickers. The scriptures will be fine. I'm going thru the Book of Mormon with a study guide. It is really cool on how a study guide can help. The scriptures are amazing.
Today I bought 2 suit coats for $10.00 bucks. I will use them through the winter. Also for christmas, it won't be all that great because we will be working, but I will think of things.
My bike will be ok for awhile, but I might get another after winter. But I love the mission, I'm learning a lot. It's different but a good diffrent. Till next monday.

Love,
Elder Garrett
